Kent wins £3.5m Seaconomics support

Jan 16, 2012

For firms at business locations along the county's seafront, this could mean additional training and the opportunity to share best practice with other European coastal areas - as well as the continuation of certain sustainable tourism initiatives, reports Only Kent.

Sandra Matthews-Marsh, chief executive of Visit Kent, revealed that it will allow the organisation to support small businesses and entrepreneurs in their efforts to develop their commercial prospects, while also committing funds to the regeneration of certain parts of the coast.

She added: "Competition for European funding is extremely strong and there were more than 40 areas bidding for Seaconomics support. I believe it was the strength of our case, and the achievements we have delivered from previous initiatives, that led to our success."

The news that entrepreneurs in Kent can apply for support from the county's tourist board is likely to be well received by business men and woman, but the release of a top 100 list from Mumpreneur UK shows the region is already doing well in this respect.

Kent Business TV reported that local mother Sarah Dening, who runs online retailer Shop On Your Doorstep single-handedly, was named in the list for being able to juggle a successful business with her family - which includes a husband, four children and two step-children.
