Margate a natural home for GEEK 2012 exhibition
The organisers of the upcoming Games Expo East Kent (GEEK) 2012 have stressed that Margate was a "natural" choice for the event.
Kate Kneale, director at the company behind the occasion, Marine Studios, claimed that the Kent town was ideal because of its natural connection to games, adding that the destination has seen substantial changes in the past year, according to Kentnews.co.uk.
She said: "From the sideshow illusionists to the arcades on the seafront, playing is a serious business in Margate and in the 21st century that means video gaming, and video gaming is a big global business."
Ms Keale pointed out that this is the first time that GEEK has been held, but remarked that she hopes it could become an annual event, which may inspire more technology firms to consider the commercial property Kent has to offer.
The event, running from February 15th to 19th 2012, will showcase a selection of vintage consoles and arcade games, as well as look forward to the future of the industry.
Thanet Extra claimed that 150 playable consoles will be available, with tournaments, game launches and talks due to be held over the course of the exhibition.
While the event will mainly be held at Winter Gardens, businesses across Margate look set to take part in GEEK Fringe - putting on related events at cafes, galleries and other venues.
