Plans to redevelop Broadstairs 'eyesore' are backed by council
The council's planning committee has backed proposals to knock down a derelict house at 23 Western Esplanade and replace it with three-storey block of flats.
The new building would contain five flats, garages, parking and landscaping.
Plans for a two-storey development on the site were approved by Thanet council last year, following a narrowly-won vote by the town council to recommended the plans for approval.
Several designs have been submitted for the site since 2003.
The first time Thanet council approved plans was in 2006, but only after the town council had already recommended refusal five times.
Conservative councillor David Lawson said: "This particular site has become a rubbish tip, the house is an eyesore. I no longer have any reservations about the development, the plans look very promising."
Town mayor David Saunders agreed, saying he had no objections. He said: "It is in keeping with the street scene."
The vote to recommend approval for the plans was unanimous.
