English Channel commuter service 'could boost economy'
A French business group would like to see a new commuter train service between Kent and northern France in time for the London Olympics next year.
The Opale Link Association said a service operating between Calais and Ashford could boost economies in both Kent and northern France.
Any new commuter service would require a train operator to agree to run the service.
Eurotunnel, which already runs a cross-channel commuter service for people travelling by car, said that technically a passenger commuter train service could begin operating immediately.
However, there were concerns that demand for the service might not be large enough for it to be a commercial success.
Kent County Council and the Chamber of Commerce will meet members of the Opale Link Association in August to discuss the idea.
