Developer chosen for Wincheap scheme
Canterbury City Council has selected Capital & Counties as its preferred development partner for the regeneration of the Wincheap estate.
The selection followed a formal tender process, in which the council received high quality submissions from a number of experienced and successful mixed use developers.
Capital & Counties, a wholly owned subsidiary company of Liberty International PLC, was chosen because of the quality of their proposals and creative vision for Wincheap, combined with their strength of development expertise, professionalism and excellent track record.
Proposals for Wincheap aim to reflect a high quality, mixed-use development, set within a strong landscape framework that is well connected to the surrounding Wincheap area, the A28 and city centre.
This type of development could include uses such as retail, housing, hotel, business, leisure, recreation and provision of open space.
Head of Regeneration and Economic Development at the city council, Ian Brown, said: "The council is looking forward to working closely with Capital & Counties to deliver a successful and lasting transformation of Wincheap. The aim is to provide the stimulus for further regeneration and strengthen Canterbury as a city."
