Millions could change port's transport forever
Dover's transport system could be in for a multi-million-pound transformation after the South East Regional Transport Board showed support for the town's Growth Point bid.
Both Dover and Shoreham received backing from the board after they made bids for £11.5 million from the Government's Community Infrastructure Fund.
Since gaining Growth Point status, Dover is allowed access to money towards widespread and sustainable development.
With funding for transport, Dover Priory train station can be improved, better access can be made to the White Cliffs Business Park and a cycle path can be developed from Whitfield to Dover town centre and the Western Docks.
Cllr Nick Skellett, chairman of the South East England Regional Transport board, said: "The money would help ensure more sustainable development in Dover and surrounding areas as investment in public transport, walking and cycling will help cut congestion.
"Providing the right infrastructure in the right place at the right time is absolutely key for the future."
