New equipment investment at Manston reaches £1 m

Dec 18, 2008

Manston’s Kent International Airport has taken delivery of three ground support vehicles costing a combined £500,000 - and bringing the airport’s investment in operations equipment to more than £1 million in the past 12 months.

The new arrivals are a Mercedes fuel bowser with a 44,000-litre capacity, an FMC Technologies Tempest aircraft de-icing unit and a Carmichael Cobra 1 fire engine.

All three vehicles have rolled into action at the airport, which recently unveiled its draft Master Plan outlining its vision for future growth over the next 25 years.

Earlier in the year Kent International took delivery of an entirely new fleet of Doosan Infracore forklift trucks for unloading freight from aircraft and general warehouse work.

Paul Condon, Fire and Handling Manager at Kent International, said: “This is a busy time of year for us with daily 747 flights so the de-icing unit and bowser are in everyday use. The fire engine is an auxiliary vehicle we’ve purchased to support the three appliances already at the disposal of our dedicated fire service.”
