The company's headquarters are in Folkestone, where the business started over 50 years ago by offering holidays to retired people. Saga was founded in 1951 and has a database of 7.6 million customers. Over the last fifteen years the company has diversified into financial services, insurance and communications, including licences to operate three regional radio stations in the Midlands and Scotland. It is to merge with motoring organisation AA in a deal valuing the combined firm at £6.15bn.

Saga Magazine is the largest subscription - based monthly in the UK, with a circulation of over one and a quarter million copies.

Saga now employs over 2500 people in Folkestone and Thanet - the customer contact centre in Thanet employees 800 alone. The company employs 700 more at other locations in the UK and around the world.
