ICT

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is a fast growing sector in East Kent with 500 enterprising ICT companies employing 2,300 people. There are also over 1,000 students in ICT related disciplines, and the University of Kent's Computer Science Department was rated in the UK's top ten for the quality of tuition. Fifteen subjects on offer at the Canterbury Christ Church University have a latest rating equivalent to ‘Excellent'.

These universities play a vital role of transferring technology and knowledge into businesses, contributing a number of high profile spinouts already in operation. And a £5.5 million project to build an innovation centre for technology-based business at the University of  Kent will further strengthen these links with enterprise.

Many companies, like Hopkins Research and EduSoft, are making the most of the area's ICT advantages, and East Kent is also home to the only UK provider of ultra security. East Kent is home to one of the UK's safest sites for secure data storage. The Bunker offers secure hosting and data storage inside an ex-military bunker that's within easy reach of London, but doesn't have the usual risks associated with urban locations.
