Retail and Leisure
The retail sector is booming in East Kent. The entire area has witnessed a marked increase in property demand with further strong growth predicted for the future.
Already one of the UK's most popular tourist locations, new and refurbished hotel developments continue to make the City of Canterbury an attractive destination to visit and the choice of many to work and settle in. In addition, there are new retail developments at multi-award winning Whitefriars in Canterbury and at Westwood Cross in Broadstairs, where expansion continues with a £20 million leisure and entertainment scheme planned.
The significant plans for the regeneration of Dover's town centre are expected to comprise a mixture of retail, leisure, residential and office space and potentially a hotel with corporate facilities. In addition, the £50million makeover plans to create 500 jobs and new homes. Plus, the completion of a new Shopping Centre at Bouverie Place in Folkestone will bring an attractive retail offer to residents and visitors. Seafront and town centre regeneration projects are also underway in Herne Bay, Margate and Ramsgate.
As for finding that something just a little different, towns across East Kent, such as Whitstable, are home to many small specialist shops that add an important dimension to the East Kent retail experience.
