Thanet

Thanet is located at the eastern end of Kent and includes the costal towns of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate and has a population of around 128,000.

  • Thanet is home to Kent International Airport, owned by Infratil, which is investing around £9 million in improving its excellent facilities.
  • Thanet has been chose as the prime location for the £2.3 billion London Array project, an off-shore wind farm building and developing 270 turbines over 152 sq m creating superb opportunities for ports.
  • The Port of Ramsgate is a busy cross-Channel port for freight as well as passenger ferries to Belgium and is well positioned to deal with the predicted rise in port traffic in the next ten years.
  • The opening of Ebbsfleet International has given Thanet faster links to London. High Speed 1 ‘HS1'domestic services will be operational in 2009, reducing travel times - Ramsgate to London in 84 minutes and Margate to London in 98 minutes. 
  • Availability of skilled and relatively low cost workforce, together with low land costs are attractive to new business and will lead to the creation of jobs. 
  • Manston Business Park has Kent International Airport on its doorstep,benefiting from a £5.3 million investment and has planning permission for both industrial and commercial use. 
  • EuroKent Business Park has unveiled plans for a £25 million leisure development, including a 10 screen multiplex cinema, health and fitness club, crèche and restaurant. 
  • Margate is one of the UK's top 20 creative towns, where £17.5 million Turner Contemporary Centre is due to open in 2010 and will be an international centre for the visual arts.
