Infrastructure
East Kent is very well connected. It has a highly developed road, rail, air and sea network for residents and businesses alike. Major roads, the A2, M2 and M20 link East Kent to the M25, London and Europe, and an impressive rail network includes the new High Speed 1 (HS1) giving excellent - and fast - access to London and the Continent. New domestic and international flights from Kent International Airport are available, and London Ashford Airport (LAA) has plans to develop a new terminal building and an extension to the existing runway.
The Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone is also only a short distance away. Dover and Ramsgate have a major share of the UK's freight traffic and passenger ferries cross regularly to the continent.
- Air: Kent International Airport - 50,000 tonnes of freight and up to 700,000 passengers a year. London Ashford Airport has the capacity to handle up to 500,00 passengers a year.
- Road: Access to most European cities within one day's drive.
- Rail: High Speed 1 - fastest route to continental Europe.
- Sea: Port of Dover, handles up 2.3 million freight vehicles a year.
