Fresca Group

Investment promotion agency Locate in Kent worked closely with the Fresca Group and Robert Montgomery to assist in plans to develop the UK's most hi-tech greenhouse complex on the Isle of Thanet.

More than 550 jobs are expected to be created once the project is completed and a massive £80m is being invested at the 91-hectare site near Monkton in Thanet on land previously owned by Robert Montgomery Ltd. The site, named Thanet Earth, will eventually include seven glasshouses, each covering the area of around 10 football pitches and each will use the very latest in efficient hydroponic growing techniques.

Three glasshouses are now operational and producing cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes that are already being sold in supermarket retailers around the South East and currently account for about 15% of the UK's salad production.

Chris Mack, Chairman of Fresca Group, said: "We've worked closely with Thanet Council who have been very keen to attract this level of investment to help secure an agricultural future for the area. As a Kent-based company, we're very excited about developing in Thanet. The creation of so many jobs will further enhance our position as one of Kent's leading employers."
